Because Google tracks you from the very beginning of your search, even if you’re on incognito mode. Google is behind you, everywhere.
The basic reason is that Google, at any cost, wants to let you engaged more and more within its own products and services.
It tracks you everywhere you can think of, like Browser, Android, Games, YouTube, Websites, etc. Now Google does this because it is supposed to do this only. As per Google’s revenue reports, 86% of the Google’s revenue comes from advertisements on Google owned sites or Google ad network. So it can be concluded that Google is basically an advertising agency.
In order to advertise successfully and convert more and more ad views (impressions) into clicks it needs to show relevant ads to the potential target buyers. Therefore Google always keeps your data, right from the very beginning of your search, and tries to know more and more about you. Everything you enter in your search bar and every website you visit thereafter, Google know about you. The google products like Chrome, Android, Analytics, Ads, etc., all are collecting more and more data about you and helping Google to show you ads which you are a potential buyer of. Google ad network is so powerful that it may land people to buy things which they just searched for the sake of mere curiosity.
On the other hand, DuckDuckGo lets you protect your privacy by letting you search freely without tracking you anywhere on the web. Let’s find out how.
  • Open DuckDuckGo on your browser
  • Search a keyword, I searched for “Stock Market” as I am interested in it a lot.
  • Now what you have to do is remove the “Stock Market” keyword from the search bar and place something random like how, when, what, why, etc. and look at the suggestions.
You can see in the last screen that the search suggestions are irrelevant of the previous keyword you searched for.
Now, The following example will help you understand things better about how Google is tracking you right from your very first search, even in incognito mode.
  • Open Google in Incognito Mode
  • Search a keyword, I searched for “Stock Market” because of my love for it.
  • Here comes the best (and the worst) part. Now what you have to do is remove the “Stock Market” keyword from the search bar and place something random like how, when, what, why, etc. and look at the suggestions.
  • Even if you try to search something off the topic like King, Jokes, etc.
The Google Search tries to manipulate the suggestions in order to engage you more and more with the topic you were looking for.
This is just the beginning how Google can manipulate your search behaviours, which results in loss of time and information bombardment as well. There are many more ways how Google is using your personal data.
